➪ other notes : just imagine being the sweet s/o of the infamous dazai only for his subordinate to look up at you when you’re the first person to show him love, ALSO AKU IS OOC !!! even tho i love this boy he’s so hard to write for

he knows it’s wrong to look at you like this. he knows that that you will never be with him. so why does his heart beat faster when he’s with you ? why does he feel calmer when you’re with him on a mission ? why does he feel like this at all, especially for his mentor’s partner…

maybe it was your sweet temper despite his initial behavior towards you. he wanted to loathe you, he wanted to hate you, why did you have dazai’s approval and he didn’t ? yet part of him knew that he couldn’t just despise you, but why ? he asked himself that question for months when you were always kind to him.

he didn’t know how you ended up in the mafia, wondering how other mafiosos didn’t eat you up like stray dogs and a piece of meat. but he did find out you were a skilled swordsman, quick on your feet as you glided to kill. the battlefield was your playground, now realizing why you were a force to be reckoned with.

you weren’t just kind to him because you pitied him, you were kind to everyone, even giving your enemies a painless death. coincidentally that’s what also caught dazai’s attention. like mentor like subordinate, you could say, not that akutagawa had someone else to take after with mimic behavior.

over several months you got to know akutagawa, familiarizing yourself with the boy. you’d be lying if you said you didn’t feel bad for everything he’s already gone through. maybe that’s why you took after him when dazai wasn’t around, though you’d never say that out loud.

now both of you were on a small hill watching as the sun slowly set on yokohama. you were sitting on the ground, your knees close to your chest as akutagawa stood behind you leaning next to a tree, coughing into his hand a few times. it was quiet, a comfortable silence that helped both of you bond in an odd way.

“isn’t it beautiful,” you suddenly said, snapping akutagawa out of his thoughts. he shortly hummed, not giving a conclusive answer. “come sit next to me,” you said, patting the spot next to you on the grass, turning around to look at him, softly smiling. he hesitated but softly sighed and sat down next to you.

it was comical how two dangerous mafiosos were now sitting on a hill watching the sunset like old friends. akutagawa sat stiffly, looking ahead as the sky bursts with colors. “ryūnosuke,” you say, akutagawa’s face heating up as you use his first name, something he entrusted to you not long ago.

“why did you join the mafia,” you ask curiously. you knew why, your boyfriend told you but you wanted the perspective of the boy next to you. “to become stronger,” he bluntly said. “even though you’re under someone’s wings?” he stiffens up at that statement, staying silent.

“ryū,” you say, a nickname you gave him the same day he introduced his first name to you. he looks at you, feeling his eyes soften. “you’re going to have to make your own decisions one day, whether you like it or not,” your words have some heft to them despite your voice remaining soft, even softer than usual.

he doesn’t know what to say. instead he just looks at you, soaking in your appearance. “osamu would kill you if he saw this,” you say chuckling and akutagawa can’t help but feel his eye twitch as you say dazai’s first name with such sweetness. but your words start sinking in. he knows you know what he thinks. was he this obvious or were you just very observant ?

“you do know we’re not meant to be right,” you continue the one sided conversation, looking at the boy next to you as he continues to stare at you. “i knew that already, i won’t try anything,” he speaks for the first time in a while. you softly smile at him. with that, the conversation concludes with both of you silently watching as the colors slowly fade away as the moon rises.

this situation is almost comforting to him, knowing that his overthinking was shut down. your gentle rejection spared him humiliation, both of you knowing that you’re never meant to be together. instead, you’ll continue your kindness as he absorbs it like a sponge. such a bittersweet moment, isn’t it ?

I'm lazy and don't have the patience to draw a full comic so I used MMD.

FOR THE FEELS ; A ; I need Terra talking more dammit, so here's him expressing himself a bit more.

I made this mainly for closure after KH3 (as do most Terraqua artists do with their artwork, I suppose ehe) Sorry if it's OOC, this is kind of the result of exploring these characters, their pent-up emotions, and just my take on them. That and I'm several years late. I got back into KH and BBS after 3 rounds of Covid hitting me. Terraqua became my comfort ship.

How bold of me to use a Terra POV when I don't know him as well as Aqua. Please don't kill me.

I guess I'll see how this goes and decide from the responses if I'll upload part 2.

I'm torn with khux/khdr/kh3's developments with Ventus and Vanitas because part of me always loved that they are 2 halves of the same coin, and how connected they were. But I also think the idea of Ventus and Vanitas being ancient beings of light or darkness is also sooo coooool

Kairi and Darkness [speculation thread]

In BBS, we are introduced to Terra, Aqua and Ventus as parallels to Riku, Kairi and Sora, respectively. However, as the story of Kingdom Hearts continues to evolve, parallels between Aqua and Sora, Aqua and Riku, Terra and Sora, and Ventus and Kairi, are established as well.

I'd like to focus on the parallels between Ventus and Kairi, because it's possible that a terrible accident from the distant past may end up happening again.

Kairi and Ventus were both forced into a comatose state due to unfortunate circumstances, with someone close to them fighting to restore their hearts. Both are also associated with sleeping princesses.

Neither one of them remember their past, and they experience immense pain when they try to remember, or when they have a flashback.

Both were originally from another world until they were plucked and moved to another by Xehanort. Kairi was taken in by the mayor of Destiny Islands, while Ventus was taken in by Eraqus, the master of the Land of Departure. These worlds become their new homes.

Kairi's heart and Ventus' heart were required to complete the Keyblade of Heart and the X-blade, respectively, which both have the ability to summon Kingdom Hearts. (The Keyblade of Heart summons the door to Kingdom Hearts).

Both are pure hearts of light that were crystallized/frozen by Xehanort in order to "motivate" another Guardian to fight so the Keyblade War would reach its climax. (Literally in the same spot too, oof).

Oh, hey, this looks familiar! (Below, a demonstration of their light dispelling darkness through will alone).

They were both experimented on by Xehanort.

Xehanort used Kairi as a backup, which led to Sora's disappearance, just as he used Ventus to manipulate Terra into succumbing to darkness (which led to Aqua getting trapped in the Realm of Darkness).

Ah, and then there was this callback in ReMind, meaning the parallels between Kairi and Ventus are still relevant and important. Be sure to keep an eye out. 👀

Now, what does this have to do with Darkness? Well, in khux Ventus is depicted as a loner with a longing for friendship and a hidden desire for power. His complicated emotions attracted Darkness, which led to his "possession." (He was controlled like a puppet, more like).

After deciding that waiting wasn't good enough, Kairi got herself caught in the middle of another one of Sora's adventures. Kairi resolved to joining the fight, and openly expressed her irritation with being left behind.

She actively tried to help in any way she could, but it ultimately led to her getting used and destroyed by Xehanort and his many incarnations. We see this cycle eventually come to a point in Melody of Memory.

Kairi literally trembles with rage as she tells Xehanort, "because of you, my fate is at your mercy -- Sora and everyone got hurt because I wasn't strong enough!" But...her guilt, frustration, fear and lack of confidence causes her to get overpowered by illusion Xehanort.

Constantly getting left behind, not being strong enough to keep up with Sora and Riku, repeatedly getting used to endanger and hurt those she cares about, getting taken from her home world only to have her fate toyed with...

Kairi may be a Princess of Heart, but that doesn't mean she's resilient to trauma and the darkness that comes with it. Even Cinderella, another Princess of Heart, attracted the Unversed with her sorrow. If the emotions are real...darkness will respond to it, no matter who it is.

Kairi being a heart of pure light already puts her at risk of encountering darkness, because darkness is drawn to light and vice versa. And with her desire to become powerful enough to fight alongside Sora and Riku...it's just adding more bait to the trap.

"I really want to go with you... But, I can't do it now. I'd be a liability. I'm going to keep training to get more powerful so I can fight alongside you and Sora!"

And...with Melody of Memory's cover referencing the album art Nomura drew with the premise of "something that makes people want to know what's going to happen next, something that expands the imagination" where every keyword in the commands has a meaning...

"And, as one waits for Utada to perform again, there is a double meaning in this content. What happens if she starts to move again?"

It's implying Utada, as a performer, only has partial control of themselves. That, in this "game" they're in, they're at the mercy of the audience. After they're done recharging, what will happen next? Will they break free? (Of course, this is all up to interpretation).

I think Nomura wanted those same feelings to come across with Melody of Memory's cover; Kairi surrounded by memories of everyone smiling - even though, in reality, some of them weren't smiling - while sitting in Sora's empty throne, sleeping. What will happen when she wakes up?

It's rhetorical. We know what happens when she wakes up, but what we don't know is how she'll handle the guilt of seeing everyone so tired and worn out from searching endlessly for Sora for an entire year.

Would she think "if I was more powerful, I could fix everything"? Or maybe "once I'm strong enough, I'll fix it all since it's my fault"? And with her going to train under Aqua, her getting close Ventus is inevitable. It's the perfect set up.

"But she's a Princess of Heart and has a pure heart of light! She can't fall to darkness!" Yeah. You're right. I'm not saying she'll fall to darkness, but the probability of her being used like a puppet is high and not impossible.

What did Darkness say in ReMind again?

"He is too pure. It's because he's so pure that he has many gaps."

Pure...as in "untainted by darkness," and because darkness is half of everything - even people - it leaves those with hearts of pure light full of "holes" that darkness can easily hide in.

Which is exactly what happened to Ventus.

Kingdom Hearts BBS Crossroads making me think...

In Chain of Memories, Sora gains "a secret memory" however he soon forgets his regular memories and Naminé is now in the picture.

Now I believe there is an important and precious memory he forgot that is separate from Naminé, but she override that memory with herself

It could also just be in order to find Riku and Mickey they go to Castle Oblivion where he is eventually tricked and loses his memories so he is put to sleep to eventually restore them.

In the Reverse / Rebirth section of Chain of Memories, Riku decides on the path: the road to dawn to gain truth for his loses his fear of the darkness.

However, I could also say Riku metaphorically died which is himself that he lost and now he is being reborn by choosing/gaining the path of dawn and using both light and darkness

For Birth By Sleep, three friends finally come together after being separated where they're able to be saved by one another and defeated Xehanort, but Ven's heart is lost, Terra's body is lost, and Aqua is lost in the realm of darkness in spite of it all. (Also happy 15th anniversary Birth By Sleep)

Now in Union Cross/ Unchained X or whatever you want to call this game, the dandelions are able to live on, but everyone else had to die and they eventually are "reborn" in the other world without the memories. They gained being able to live on and have another "world" to continue everything.

Now the main union leaders like Aced, or Ava and not the dandelions, they trapped pure darkness inside each and everyone of themselves—which was the Master of Masters' plan—could be part of another loss or perhaps a gain in MOM's case. Each Union wanted to win and have the most lux, but they eventually died through mistrust and formed the keyblade war which would be what they gave up or lost.

Now in Dark Road there is a section where Xehanort meets MOM and goes down a path of darkness but begins to travel using darkness. Now he was already headed from prior events but by meeting MOM this could have made it happen moreso. He distanced himself from his only remaining friend and met MOM. The Master of Masters is the devil offering him a deal. What was the deal? It could have not been shown or it could have been the coat to counter darkness but soon darkness overtakes him.

Now we get to KH3, where Riku is able to help Sora save himself (Kairi wishes for him too), but sacrifices his life ensures that Sora is able to save everyone but by doing so it makes him abuse the power of waking. This makes it too late for Sora and his loss is his life by disappearing from the world into quadratum.

Now everyone is able to defeat Organization 13 but the heroes of light all must have died by separation of the heart as well.

In the ending scene we finally see the Union Leaders. There they are at crossroads and they are able to meet up only through the loss of by giving up their hearts and traveling to that place.

However, the gain and loss could be that they gained the black box, but they lost Ava. As she was technically the traitor.

Now for KH4, what does this mean? We have the soriku secret ending that shows both Sora and Riku in Quadratum. However, there is another crossroads. As said when we first see it "in order to find is to lose" and Riku goes to Quadratum and at the crossroads he probably is able to find Sora but... What does he give up? The way to return? Something we don't know yet?

Sora is also able to meet with Riku again but in exchange of what??

It could be memories or it could be something entirely different...
